Happy Sunday! If you're wondering where Susannah-Mio comes from, it's because I'm reading Stephen King's Song of Susannah and he keeps calling the character "Susannah-Mio," which pretty much guarantees that as long as I'm reading that book I'm hearing Hank Williams in my head singing "Jambalaya," where he butchers the Cajun endearment "ma chers amies" (I don't know how to do accent marks in Blogger!) as "ma cher amio." And since I have to hear it in my head, so do you:
Now, I'm going to be a busy girl for the next few months as Suzanne writes the fourth book in the Sentinels of New Orleans series (tentative title Pirate's Alley), which is due in January to my editor. No release date on that one yet, but I'm guessing around July or August, which means some shorts to tide you over!
I'm happy to finally announce what I'm up to as Susannah Sandlin!
* A still-secret project, but I can say it will be a Susannah adaptation of a work formerly written as Suzanne, only with all-new characters. This will be a short novella and available sometime this fall, so stay tuned.
* PENTON 4 is a go! There might or might not be a follow-up to Storm Force; jury's waffling on that one and if it continues to sell well, it might happen. In the meantime, Deliverance, fourth book in the Penton Vampire Legacy series, will be published next spring. The proposed publication date is May 22. I had hoped to get it out this fall when I was going to publish it myself, but it's really much better for me for my fab publisher, Montlake, to do it--it means I get all the editing and the cover design to match the rest of the series. So Cage, Mel and Mark will finally get their story.
* LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP will begin a new series called The Collectors. This will be (don't groan) initially released as a serial beginning on December 24 with weekly episodes delivered through January 13. The print edition will come out on May 13...hm...which is my birthday. The second book in The Collectors series will begin as a serial on April 1 and will be published in print on September 16.
The Collectors is a new venture for me, and I hope you'll give it a try. It is not paranormal per se, although there are mystical elements to it. The Collectors themselves are a group of seven ruthless, extremely wealthy individuals around the world who have a secret club--they compete to find some of the world's most elusive lost treasures. Did I mention they were ruthless? Each book will find them putting some poor people through absolute misery as they try to get what they want--by any means necessary.
In Lovely, Dark and Deep, you'll get the story of Shane, a washed-up salvage diver who's on the brink of sinking so low he can't be saved, and Gillian, a wildlife veterinarian who needs a diver desperate enough to take on a very deadly job: braving the cold waters of the North Atlantic by stealth to find the lost cross of the Knights Templar.
In the second book (its working title is What Rough Beast, but the publisher isn't sold on that so it will likely change), you'll meet a young archaeologist and a rugby player who get caught up in the Collectors' lust for the lost crown jewels of England's "Bad King John."
Fun fun fun! I'm really excited about this series, although it's a huge departure for me as an author. As the projects get going (first up: Penton 4), start looking for some snippets here each Sunday!
